The City of El Cajon Public Works Department manages the City’s integrated waste management activities, which include solid waste franchise administration and compliance with the CalRecycle for reduction of waste directed to the landfill.
The City of El Cajon has met the California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle) accomplishment in continuing to exceed the State’s mandated 50% diversion rate.
The State has set a goal of 75% for 2020. This means that more than 75% of everything we are disposing of is being diverted away from our landfills and being reused or recycled. Currently, the City’s diversion rate is approximately 61%.
The City of El Cajon currently has an exclusive franchise agreement with EDCO for solid waste disposal and recycling services. They can be reached through a number of methods, including its Customer Service call center at (619) 287-7555. For additional contact options, please visit EDCO here.
