The City of El Cajon is closely monitoring the outbreak of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) with San Diego County public health experts. The County of San Diego’s Health and Human Services Agency is working with the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention to monitor and respond to suspected cases in the San Diego County region.
City of El Cajon staff are participating in regular briefings with public health officials and public safety agencies. At this time, residents are encouraged to stay informed and learn what you can do to protect your health, and prevent the spread of the virus. For information visit coronavirus-sd.com or call 2-1-1.
Older adults and people who have severe chronic medical conditions like heart, lung or kidney disease seem to be at higher risk for more serious COVID-19 illness. Learn more on the CDC website.

Status of City Services
Floors 2-6 of City Hall have been permanently closed to the public. All City business is now conducted on the 1st floor of City Hall in the new Project Assistance Center. Reception has also been relocated to the left as guests enter. Those wishing to conduct City business can now check in at Reception and will then be directed into the Project Assistance Center to meet with a staff member of the appropriate department for assistance.

July 28, 2021
The City of El Cajon continues to monitor the impacts of COVID-19. The County of San Diego Health Department, together with the State of California, have aligned with the CDC's new guidelines in "recommending" the wearing of face masks, even for those who have been vaccinated due to the high rate of COVID-19 cases and testing positivity in the County. June 16, 2021
The San Diego County Public Health Order was updated on Monday, June 14. A summary of the changes include:
- As of Tuesday, June 15th, the Blueprint for a Safer Economy is no longer in effect.
- The State has transitioned to Beyond the Blueprint for Industries and Business Sectors, effective June 15th, which includes guidelines and standards for limited public health restrictions, including face coverings, school based guidance, and guidance for mega events.
- Mask guidance aligns with the California Department of Public Health's face covering guidance, effective June 15.
- Order of the Health Officer and Emergency Regulations, dated May 6, 2021, and any other Health Officer orders related to COVID-19 shall expire, with the exception of:
- “Isolation of All Persons with or Likely to have COVID-19”
- “Quarantine of Persons Exposed to COVID-19”
- Any quarantine or isolation order issued to an individual that is currently in effect
- Pursuant to Health and Safety Code section 120175.5(b), all governmental entities in the County are expected to continue taking necessary measures within the governmental entity’s control to ensure compliance with State and local laws, regulations, and orders related to the control of COVID-19

The City has created a Vaccine Resources page filled with helpful information and links for obtaining the COVID-19 Vaccine. The page will be regularly updated with new vaccination locations and events as they come available.

COVID-19 vaccination events will be coming to the community help reduce barriers in accessing vaccines. To learn more, please call 619-441-1516. Staff is available from 9am-5pm Monday through Friday to answer questions.

Option B of the El Cajon Small Business Grant is now available. Businesses may apply for either, or both, for a possible total grant maximum of $15,000. Visit the grant homepage for details and to apply.

RESTAURANTS -The American Rescue Plan Act established the Restaurant Revitalization Fund (RRF) to provide funding to help restaurants and other eligible businesses keep their doors open. This program will provide restaurants with funding equal to their pandemic-related revenue loss up to $10 million per business and no more than $5 million per physical location. Recipients are not required to repay the funding as long as funds are used for eligible uses no later than March 11, 2023. Click HERE to learn more and to apply.

Business Grant Program (2nd round) - On April 27th, the El Cajon City Council voted to allocate a portion of the American Rescue Plan Act funds to support local businesses in El Cajon. The City designated $5 million to the El Cajon Business Grant Program, from which business owners may apply for one (1) of two (2) options and receive up to $15,000 in grant funding. The City of El Cajon will soon be administering a second Business Grant Program through Federal Funds from the American Rescue Plan (ARP). The details of this program will be finalized at the next City Council meeting. Watch the City Council meeting live on Tuesday, April 27th at 3pm HERE.

The County of San Diego's Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP) helps eligible households in qualifying areas who have been financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The program provides payment assistance for renters behind on rent and utilities. Review the County's helpful ERAP flyer, which includes the information in multiple languages.
Apply online beginning March 2, 2021. Only one application per household will be processed. Applicants will be able to check their status on the application portal at any point in the process.
If you do not have internet access and need assistance in completing an application, contact the County at (858) 694-4801 and a County representative will be able to assist you.

The State has allowed all counties to return to Purple Tier restrictions:
- Open Indoors: Hair salons, personal care, dental and medical, government services, hotels.
- 25% Capacity: Retail, malls (common areas and food courts remain closed), libraries
- 50% Capacity: Grocery stores
- Outdoors only: Restaurants** w/ live entertainment (new), churches, gyms, recreation, camping, aquariums, zoos, family entertainment centers, pools, weddings (ceremonies only), wineries.
- Closed: Non-essential offices/businesses, amusement parks, bars and breweries with no food, bowling alleys, concert venues, festivals, indoor playgrounds, nightclubs, saunas/steam rooms.
- Schools: Distance learning if not already open for in-person instruction.
- Small gatherings: 3 or fewer households for less than 2 hours
**The County's 10pm to 5am curfew for restaurants still remain in place. People can order food until 10pm, but the restaurant must close by 11pm.

Information on COVID Testing - Health plans are required to cover COVID-19 tests at no costs to the enrollee. It is recommended that you first contact your healthcare provider for a COVID-19 test. If you are unable to get a test from your healthcare provider, the County of San Diego has coordinated free diagnostic COVID-19 testing at many locations.

The California Small Business COVID-19 Grant Program is now available with an application deadline of Wednesday, January 13, 2021.
Small businesses and non-profits are encouraged to apply for the $500 million in funds available. Grant sizes range from $5,000 to $25,000 for businesses impacted by COVID-19 and related health and safety restrictions. These grants are not first-come, first-serve and applications will be evaluated based on financial loss due to COVID-19 and additional criteria.

- Open Indoors: critical infrastructure, dental and medical, hotels (essential/quarantine only)
- 35% capacity: Grocery stores
- 20% & entrance monitoring: Retail and indoor malls (senior hours/no indoor food or drinks)
- Outdoor only: gyms, places of worship, outdoor recreation facilities for exercise, health and wellness
- Takeout/Pickup: Restaurants
- Schools: Distance learning for schools who haven’t transitioned to in-person instruction. In-person allowed to continue
- Closed: non-essential offices, movie theaters, playgrounds, hair salons, personal care, museums, zoos and aquariums, wineries, breweries, bars, family entertainment centers, overnight camping

The Governor has implemented a curfew for the vast majority of Californians asking them to avoid gathering with other households from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Restaurants must close at 10 p.m., with the exception of takeout and delivery. But grocery stores and other essential businesses can remain open, and people also can walk the dog late at night with others in their households without violating the order. The order is in effect through December 21.
